The series focuses on the main character Tommy Gavin, played by Leary, as he deals with the effects of the Septemattacks, which, for him, include seeing the ghost of his cousin, Firefighter Jimmy Keefe, who died on 9/11, as well as the ghosts of various people he failed to save over the years. It also features the well-known comedian Denis Leary, who carries his humorous nature into the show. The show opens by exploring their lives, both at home and inside the firehouse.
